Baroque Tour

An age of marvellous contradictions

The tour begins with the Princes' Chapel: the perfect place for a brief account of the history of the TuscanThe Medici Chapels Grand Dukes buried here. The profusion of stones renders this architectural work an authentic jewel, the pride of Florence's Opificio delle Pietre Dure (Semi-precious stone Workshop). The next stop is the church of San Gaetano: a Baroque-style church with a suggestive and scenographic facade, which seems designed in imitation of Roman churches. This is followed by the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine, where we visit the Corsini Chapel frescoed for the Corsini family by the great Luca Giordano. Next we visit the Palatine Gallery in the Pitti Palace, where particular attention is given to the major Baroque works exhibited. Upon request it is possible to visit the Palazzo Corsini. The Palazzo was never inhabited by the Corsini family and thus this beautiful building has only been used for holding receptions. Inside we can admire the finest private collection in Florence containing works of art by Botticelli, Raphael, Antonello da Messina, Pontormo, Rubens and many other masters of painting.

Duration: from 3 to 6 hours
